Training and Certification
Examinations
According to UCC training and certification regulations, the Department of Labor & Industry accepts examinations administered by the Department or other nationally recognized testing programs approved by the Department, including but not limited to:

The International Code Council (ICC)

National Certification Program for Construction Code Inspectors (NCPCCI-Prometric)

Pearson VUE

Applicants may register for up to three certification examinations on any one given test date.

Paper-and-pencil examinations offered by ICC are administered at specific locations throughout the state four times a year. Click here for a list of locations and dates. To register for paper-and-pencil testing, applicants must complete an ICC Examination Application and submit it to ICC Examination Services. For additional information, click here for the 2008 ICC National Examination Information ICC Bulletin for Code Professionals - Revised March 21, 2008.

Computer-based tests are available by appointment, and provide an easy solution for those who prefer more flexibility. Both NCPCCI-Experior and Pearson VUE offer computer-based exams at locations throughout the state. Click here for the NCPCCI National Certification Program Candidate Information.

Note: Passing a national certification examination does not automatically confer a Pennsylvania certification. You must apply to the Department of Labor & Industry and submit the appropriate documentation and application fees in order to receive your state certification. Please see the above state-certification section for information on applying for certification.
