Anyone performing plan reviews, inspecting construction or equipment, or administering and enforcing the UCC must be certified by the Department of Labor & Industry in the category applicable to the work being performed. The Department is responsible for granting certifications, issuing ID cards, and maintaining a statewide list of certified individuals. Click here for L&I's individual certification booklet.
Certifications are good for three years, during which individuals must satisfy 15 credit hours of continuing education to renew their certification. Those with multiple certifications must complete 15 credit hours of continuing education per category up to a maximum of 45 total credit hours per three-year period. Click here for L&I's certification renewal booklet.
Third-party agencies must meet all individual certification requirements for their employees or agents, and must submit proof of liability insurance to maintain their certification. Click here for L&I's third-party agency certification booklet.
Fees are adjusted annually, and other requirements may be updated as well. Please refer directly to the Department of Labor & Industry to ensure the most up to date information.
