Duct & Envelope Basics Training (3 hours)
Envelope air leakage (blower door) testing is now required for every new home built in Pennsylvania. In addition, duct leakage testing is required for every new home that has any portion of the HVAC system located outside of conditioned space. This session will provide an overview of duct and envelope testing procedures and 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) envelope leakage and duct leakage requirements. The program will also include an overview of related training and certifications, such as BPI’s Infiltration & Duct Leakage (IDL) and RESNET’s Ratings Field Inspector (RFI), for people interested in learning more about how to add blower door and duct leakage testing as new services to their existing business model. Interested attendees may qualify to attend more in-depth, hands-on training as a step to becoming a DET contractor.
DET for CTE: Intro to Residential Duct & Envelope Testing for Career & Technical Educators (1 hour)
Two of the biggest energy wasters in homes is HVAC duct leakage and uncontrolled air leakage through the building shell, or “envelope”. Duct & Envelope Testing (DET) are crucial parts of energy code compliance for new homes and are also common tools for assessing the energy performance of existing homes. As such, there are related career opportunities as home energy raters and energy auditors and these skills could also be useful for those interested in entering the construction industry. This session will provide an overview of duct and envelope testing procedures and 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) envelope leakage and duct leakage requirements. The program will also include an overview of related training and certifications, such as BPI’s Infiltration & Duct Leakage (IDL) certification and RESNET’s Ratings Field Inspector (RFI) certification.
